The Chevening Scholarship is the UK Government’s prestigious fully funded scholarship programme for outstanding international students and professionals. It provides the opportunity to pursue a Master’s degree at a UK university while developing academic, professional and leadership skills.

The monthly stipend is intended to help cover accommodation and basic living expenses in the UK, with different rates depending on whether the scholar studies in London or outside London.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Chevening Scholarship 2027–28, applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. Citizenship

You must be a citizen of a country or territory that is eligible for the Chevening Scholarship.

2. Undergraduate Degree

You must hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies you for admission to a postgraduate programme at a UK university.

For the 2027–28 intake, your undergraduate degree must have been completed at least two years before the Chevening application deadline.

As the application deadline is 6 October 2026, applicants must have completed their undergraduate degree before October 2024. If your degree was completed after this period, you will not meet the degree-timing requirement for this cycle.

3. Work Experience

You must have at least 2,800 hours of work experience, equivalent to approximately two years, acquired after completing your undergraduate degree.

Eligible experience can include:

• Full-time employment
• Part-time employment
• Voluntary work
• Paid or unpaid internships

Different periods and types of eligible work experience may be combined to meet the required total.

4. UK University Courses

You must apply to three different eligible UK Master’s courses.

Your selected courses should meet Chevening’s eligibility requirements.

5. University Offer

You do not necessarily need an unconditional university offer when submitting your Chevening application.

However, you must obtain an unconditional offer from at least one of your selected courses and submit it by the specified deadline. For the 2027–28 cycle, this deadline is 8 July 2027.

6. Return to Your Home Country

Successful scholars must agree to return to their country of award for at least two years after completing their Chevening Scholarship.

Before applying, make sure:

✓ You have at least 2,800 hours of post-graduation work experience
✓ You are from a Chevening-eligible country
✓ You are applying for eligible UK Master’s courses
✓ You can demonstrate leadership and networking potential
✓ You are prepared to return to your home country after your studies

Meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee selection because Chevening is a highly competitive scholarship.
